Description

This example provides a template for simulation of resonant modes of a complex structure. The geometry was extracted from the report J. Edelen, S. Biedron and S. Milton, Modeling and Simulation of a Two-Frequency Electron Gun describing design studies for an RF electron gun. The dimensions were transferred to the Mesh drawing editor with fillets added for a more realistic geometry. The first calculation was a scan to locate TM resonances with high on-axis electric field. Two additional calculations were performed to determine the resonant frequencies accurately and to record spatial variations of the mode fields.

Results
|
The top figure plots results from WaveSim in the Scan mode, with the probe response deteremined at 31 frequencies. A zero crossing indicates the presence of a resonant mode. The other two figures show results from two Search mode calculations to find accurate values of the resonant frequencies (1.485 GHz and 2.776 GHz) and to record spatial variations of field quantities. The middle figure shows plots of electric-field lines. The lower figure plots the magnitude and direction of E at the phase for maximum on-axis field.
