NEW EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE: KB (November 1, 2009) KB is a comprehensive package of reference material and computer codes to model materials at high temperature and pressure. The Windows programs, available at no charge to educational institutions and industries, may be used in computer laboratories or distributed to students. The package is of particular interest to physicists, mechanical engineers and civil engineers. It provides students with a hands-on introduction to the hydrodynamic equations, the equation of state and critical concepts like the Hugoniot curve. NEW PRODUCT: FE Builder (FEB0100) (October 5, 2009)
Finite-element methods have extensive applications in areas such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics research, fluid dynamics and bioengineering. While the methods are straightforward to implement for a wide variety of physical problems, researchers and students face two obstacles to their implementation: 1) creation of quality conformal meshes for arbitrary application geometries (mesh generation) and 2) efficient analysis of a large amount of numerical output data (post processing). Creating user programs to accomplish these tasks could involve man-years of effort, while commercially-available mesh generators are expensive and are often inflexible and proprietary. FE Builder solves both problems, allowing developers to concentrate their attention on finite-element solutions. The package includes a solid-modeling graphical environment, an automatic conformal mesh generator and a fully-customizable universal postprocessor. FE Builder is well-suited for one-of-a-kind research applications as well as commercial distribution of finite-element packages.
